Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I choose between roosters and hens to purchase?
Some breeds we offer juvinelle and adult birds in pairs or by sex. However, all chicks are sold as straight run.
  • What is the ratio of roosters to hens with a straight run?
    Normally it is roughly 50/50.
  • Can we purchase birds and have them mailed or delivered?
We do not mail birds and are usually pick-up only. However, we have been known to deliver or meet in the general area.
  • Do you sell birds year round?
Yes, but selection can be limited in the winter months.
  • Can I choose to have you clip my bird's wing so they can't fly?
No. We do not clip wings. Special care should be taken, especially with pheasant and quail to provide a pen where they are secure and not able to escape.
  • Should I call ahead before visiting the hatchery?
Yes. This is a very small operation. Availability of birds can change often. Prior coordination to ensure we can meet your needs is essential.
  • What hours are you open?
We don't have specific hours. It is best to call/text us at (785) 806-1277 to coordinate your purchase. If there is no answer we are likely spending some time with our birds. Leave a message and we will return your call, usually within a few hours. You can also email us at raretreasureshatchery@gmail.com.
